Here is a band that will challenge any listeners' musical limitations, as well as their intellectual limits when concerning the conspiracy theories as related to todays world concerns. Linear Sphere has released a cd that truely defies any categoric norms that populate the many genres surrounding progressive music, first of all, this band is mostly of the progressive metal variety in terms of guitar tones, aggression, and technical complexity.

They have also adopted a very aggressive manner of vocal delivery, with a gritty singer in - Jos Geron, who is not strictly a 'death metal' style singer, but more of a vocal acrobat, utilizing both clean and processed vocals. His style is an aquired taste, but in the tradition of the few bands that have dabbled in the technical metal arena, his voice is the perfect fit, adding a sinister, almost role playing visage to the lyrical substance.

Lyrically, the band tackles some interesting concepts, mostly attacking the credibility of todays accepted social and political facades, making use of the conspiracy theories surrounding the Illuminati, Skull and Bones Society, New World Order, Free Masonry, etc. These topics find to be a perfect subject matter to fit along with the bands incredible music arrangements. And musically is where I find this band to be most impressive, they are all extreme musicians, and extremely competent as well, much detail has been placed on complexity and technical sophistication, following in the footsteps of Cynic, Watch Tower and the earlier Sieges Even. Yet Linear Sphere brings even more of a fusion element to the music at times, in fact, there are moments where they bring a LTE, Planet X feel to the instrumental aspects of the cd, as well as a modern twist on those underground cult favorites.

I found that I could appreciate the bands' musical moments on the first listen with no problems, but I needed to read along with the lyrics to appreciate what they were stating from a lyrical perspective, as Jos Geron's voice style can be a bit hard to to understand with all the music that is going on around him, there is a lot to take in with this bands' music. They employ a twin guitar attack, bass, and drums, all excellent players, and they are all well represented by the style of the music they write.

So here is a cd that really needs to find it's audience, those fans of the following bands need to track this cd down Sieges Even, Watchtower, Spiral Archetect, Spastic Ink, Cynic, Aghora, and the few other bands of lesser known popularity, you know who you are, take a trip to the Linear Sphere website, and try them out for yourselves, very interesting newcomer to this underexposed genre.
